These illustrations are for an ABC book I made in the Summer of 2018. For some of the pieces I made different paint textures and colors on watercolor paper and then used that as collage media. I did that for the cover and for the letters B, C, M, S, and U. I also used some acrylic paint on M. For all of the other letters I used a dip pen, India ink, and gouache. All of the pieces are 5 inches square. Prints are available. Contact me if you're interested or if you'd like to commission me to do a letter piece with a different subject. I made all of these illustrations for a book of colors that I published through blurb.com. I'm very excited about it, because this is the first time I can remember making a significant amount of artwork during the school year. I'm hoping this is something I can continue in the future. All of the illustrations were done with a dip pen, India ink, and gouache. I did all of the lettering you can see here by hand. The illustrations are all done on Arches paper and they're all six-inch squares...except for the one on the last slide that has all the color names, which is a nine-inch square. When my daughter Saidy was younger, she became obsessed with the stars and planets. Her passion for them inspired me to do this series.
All of the pieces were made by first painting the background with gouache. Once that was dry, I cut the stars and lines out of drawing paper and and pasted them down. Lastly, I made the drawings in colored pencil. Each piece is 5" square, with the exception of two: "Ursa Major" is 7" square and "Cygnus" is 6" x 7". |
